Signal AI
Part-time IT and security lead for a growing AI company
Signal AI builds an AI platform for reputation and risk intelligence, with teams in London, Lisbon and New York. Ahmed led IT and security for the company three days a week during a period of rapid growth — the fractional model we now sell as a service — bringing a largely Mac, largely remote estate up to the standard that enterprise customers' security questionnaires demand.
The brief
Give a fast-moving scale-up senior IT and security ownership on a part-time basis: get every device enrolled and managed, standardise identity and access, close the email-security gaps that customer due diligence flags first, move the remaining on-premises services to the cloud without downtime, and leave practices the team can keep running.
What was delivered
Devices
- Mac fleet brought under Jamf with scripted, zero-touch enrolment so a new starter's laptop configures itself on first sign-in
- Device compliance, encryption and update policies written to the company's security requirements, with Intune covering the Windows estate
Identity and access
- Identity, access and lifecycle standardised across Microsoft 365, Google Workspace and the SaaS tools engineers use every day
- Conditional access and MFA baselines so that only managed, compliant devices reach company data
Email security
- SPF, DKIM and DMARC designed and rolled out across all sending domains — a business case and staged plan first, enforcement second — ending spoofing of the company's brand
Cloud and operations
- Remaining on-premises services migrated to cloud infrastructure with zero downtime
- Security assessment and ISO 27001-aligned practices put in place to satisfy enterprise customers' supplier reviews
- Routine administration automated with PowerShell and Azure Automation; training for staff on the new tooling
