Dual-Layer IAM Architecture — Okta and Microsoft Entra ID

Use Okta and Entra ID together with deliberate separation of responsibilities, app access and Microsoft security controls.

OktaEntra IDSSOConditional AccessIAM

Okta and Microsoft Entra ID can coexist when each platform has a defined role. We assess your application estate, device strategy and Microsoft security requirements, then design the identity flows, controls and operating model around your needs.

Architecture and implementation

  • Define the authoritative identity source and lifecycle ownership
  • Design federation and SSO flows between Okta, Entra ID and business applications
  • Use Entra Conditional Access for Microsoft cloud access and device-aware controls where appropriate
  • Map MFA, sign-in risk, break-glass and administrator controls across both platforms
  • Document monitoring, support boundaries and rollback steps

Project deliverables

  • Current-state review and target architecture
  • Identity flow diagrams and policy decisions
  • Phased implementation plan and test cases
  • Runbooks and handover for your IT provider

Frequently asked

Is a dual identity provider always the right choice?

No. It adds operational complexity and should solve a clear requirement. We assess whether one provider can meet your needs before recommending a dual-layer design.

What does it cost?

The Dual-IAM Architecture Review is £3,000 fixed (four days) and gives you a target design and a plan. Federation implementation starts from £6,500. The review fee is credited against implementation if booked within 60 days.

Will users have to sign in twice?

No. The design goal is one sign-in experience with a single MFA prompt, whichever provider the user starts from.
